OR

* 12 week intensive courses to BHSPI, and also Stage IV and IT level.

12 Month Practical Course

Why Wellington Riding?

We offer excellent practical and theoretical equestrian training

Training people and horses since the early 1970’s, Wellington Riding is on the UK’s biggest and best known equestrian centres. Set in 500 acres of the Duke of Wellington’s beautiful Hampshire estate, we are a British Horse Society Approved Riding School, Livery Yard and ‘Where To Train’ Centre.

We have  a fantastic range of facilities, over 60 well schooled horses and ponies and BHS trained and qualified staff. All our instructors are carefully selected to ensure that our students recieve the highest possible standards of tuition. Whatever your equestrian experience on arrival we can improve your horsemanship in a friendly, safe environment.

Our superb facilities, qualified instructors, many years of experience and internationally recognised reputation, all help to make us a highly successful training establishment. We train towards both British Horse Society (BHS) and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) by achieving ‘modules’ of learning. We are also a popular BHS examination venue.

12 Month Practical Course

A practical ‘hands-on’ course giving invaluable industry experience

The course is available to those students who are willing to work in exchange for tuition. We regard these students as very special people, as they spend at least 12 months as part of the Wellington Riding Team.

Students may take their BHS examinations throughout their year with us, and would aim to achieve at least their Stage 1, Riding & Road Safety and Stage 2 qualifications by the end of course. Many of our students are also able to achieve Stage 3, but this may depend on their previous experience before coming to train with us. All students also train towards their Preliminary Teaching Test and are able to take this too providing they are old enough during their time with us.

What to Expect

Opportunities

Each day at Wellington Riding is unique, affording the students the opportunity to learn many aspects of the equine industry. Students are provided with a variety of experiences which will give them a sound grounding for whichever sector of the industry they choose to pursue.

Student training is carried out on weekdays during the term time. On Monday or Friday students will attend their NVQ sessions as well as assisting with shows or other activities. Their formal lessons take place on Tuesday to Thursday usually during the morning. Students will ride; attend theoretical or practical lectures and teaching practice as allocated to them at the start of their course. During the afternoons students will gain the essential practical ‘hands-on’ experience on their allocated yard under the supervision of the perminant yard staff.

Training is not offered on BHS examination days but some students may be given the opportunity to ride within the exam thereby gaining a useful insight into the examination format and content.

Students may have the opportunity to gain additional experience within some or all areas within the business, for example:

Any additional experience should be seen as an invaluable part of your training course as the skills gained will help when looking for employment within the equine industry. The more students embrace the opportunities that are available to them during their course the more they will benefit from these opportunities.

Adult Course Testimonials

Our courses help riders perfect their skills with 1-3 days of intensive riding clinics.  All abilities are catered for; we have horses suitable for novices up to more competent riders, or you can bring your own horse with you. The following comments are taken from just a few of the many complimentary emails that clients have sent us, unsolicited, and in their own words, over the past couple of years:

“The clinic was both enjoyable and as usual a great learning experience, it is amazing the difference an extra half hour can make in enabling you to get the best out of both you & your horse. So not only thanks to Roland for an great clinic but thanks to the other riders on the clinic who also helped to make it  friendly ,enjoyable & fun. Oh and thanks to Flash too.”
